Privacy policy
Last updated November 2, 2026
In short: your notes stay on your computer. Stay Notes has no account, no ads and no tracking, and we never see, collect or sell your notes. The only personal information we may receive is your email address and payment details if you start a free trial or buy Pro, which are handled by our payment providers.
Who we are
Stay Notes is a browser extension operated by an individual in Ontario, Canada, doing business as Stay Notes (“we”). You can reach us at staynotesapp@gmail.com. Our full legal name and mailing address are available on request at that address.
Your notes
- Your notes, pictures, colors, reminders and settings are stored by Chrome on your computer, in storage only Stay Notes can use. They are never sent to us or to anyone else by Stay Notes.
- Backups: if you turn on a backup folder or download a backup file, copies are saved where you choose. If that folder is synced by a service such as Dropbox, iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Google Drive, that service’s own privacy policy applies to it.
- Chrome sync copy: if you’re signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, Chrome keeps a copy of your note text in your Google account. This is handled by Google under Google’s privacy policy.
- Sending a copy: when you copy, email, download or share a note, it goes only where you send it.
- Hidden notes are hidden from view in the extension, not encrypted. They are still in your backups and the Chrome sync copy.
What Stay Notes can see, and why (permissions)
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your notes and pictures on your computer.
- Side panel: to show notes for a website beside the page.
- Alarms: to wake Stay Notes at the time of a reminder.
- Right-click menu and active tab: to take a screenshot of the page you’re on, only when you choose “Capture this page”. The screenshot is saved in a note on your computer.
- Tabs (only if you pin a note to a website): to compare the website you’re on with your pinned notes, so Stay Notes can show their number. It doesn’t record or send your browsing anywhere.
- Notifications (only if you set a reminder): to show reminders on your screen.
Free trials and Pro
Payments are handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe. When you start a free trial or buy Pro, you give your email address (and, when paying, your card details) to them, not to Stay Notes. ExtensionPay keeps your email address so you can log in on another computer; Stripe keeps your payment details. We receive your email address and the details of your purchase (such as plan, date and amount) so we can provide Pro and answer questions, but never your full card number.
To know whether you have Pro, Stay Notes checks with ExtensionPay’s servers (extensionpay.com). This check doesn’t include your notes. Please see ExtensionPay’s and Stripe’s privacy policies.
Emails you send us
If you email us for help, we keep your message and email address to answer you. Please don’t send us your notes or anything private.
What we don’t do
- We don’t collect analytics or track how you use Stay Notes.
- We don’t show ads.
- We don’t sell, rent or share your information, except with the payment providers above to process payments, or if the law requires it.
Our website
This website (staynotes.app) has no cookies, analytics or tracking of our own. Our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
Your choices and rights
You can delete any note, and removing the extension deletes the notes it stored in Chrome (your backups stay where you saved them). To ask what we hold about you (for example, your email address from a purchase), to correct it or to delete it, email staynotesapp@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as Canada’s PIPEDA or the EU’s GDPR.
Children
Stay Notes isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date above. Important changes will also be mentioned in the extension.
